The display panel industry is undergoing significant changes. Driven by the market demand for portable systems, the small-medium panels are now available in different sizes, resolutions, and color depths. Manufacturers are developing panels at a rapid rate with each new one offering improved features at a reduced cost. System designers integrating LCD display panels are faced with the challenge of choosing the right display for their applications. They need to not only consider the effort required to integrate current displays, but also anticipate incorporating new LCDs into the design during the product's life cycle. Redesigning the product is very expensive and can significantly affect the time to market, so designers need a solution that will enable them to incorporate the latest technology with mininal cost and effort. In addition, with new portable applications continuing to improve features and services, longer battery life is required for the application to be successful. As a result, designers must choose devices that consume less power. Actel offers the IGLOO FPGA family to embed a variety of display controller functions and demonstration platform offered through a network of Solution Partners.
The IGLOO video demo kit, developed and offered by Actel's solution partner Attodyne, consists of an IGLOO video demo board and your choice of a LCD adapter board. You can choose from a series of plug-and-play display adapter boards mounted with different LCDs, ranging from 2.7" to 7" and resolution from QVGA (320x240) to SVGA (800x480). The video demo board has an IGLOO device that interfaces with several video/image sources, including DVI input and CMOS Sensor. In addition, off-chip memory is provided for data buffer and storage. The kit is initially available with an LCD adapter board containing 7" LCD panel from Toshiba, and is followed by more adapter boards with panels from other manufacturers.
