The Cortex-M1-enabled IGLOO Starter Kit is a complete, fully RoHS-compliant package that enables quick evaluation and design prototyping of Actel's Cortex-M1-enabled IGLOO family and prototype your design. The Actel IGLOO devices are the lowest power FPGAs available in the world. Low dynamic power consumption, combined with low static power consumption and Flash*Freeze technology, gives the IGLOO device the lowest total system power offered by any FPGA. Detailed current-monitoring capabilities of the starter kit allow you to directly measure this low current consumption and validate your design's performance when using IGLOO devices. The on-board programmer enables easy experimentation with ISP, device serialization, and FlashLock on-chip system security.

The Cortex-M1-enabled IGLOO development board has on-board voltage regulation, enabling you to set some of the I/O bank voltages independently. IGLOO devices can operate down to a core voltage of 1.2 V or 1.5 V, but require the core to be held at 1.5 V during programming. A regulator circuit to allow control of the core voltage is provided on each board. The core voltage may be switched manually or electronically for programming purposes and returned to the 1.2 V setting for the lowest power consumption during normal operation.

Advanced AES encryption for enhancing programming security can be used when experimenting with the starter kit. The encryption key is preprogrammed into the device to allow the latest ARM® FPGA-specific processor soft core, Cortex-M1, to be used.
