Silicon Sculptor v5.0.0 Windows Release Notes

(updated on Dec 11, 2009)

SculptW v5.0.0 is a new general release of the Silicon Sculptor software, supporting both the Silicon Sculptor II and Silicon Sculptor 3 programmers. The Silicon Sculptor 3 programmer is a high-speed USB 2.0-based programmer.

This release introduces support for new devices in the IGLOO® and ProASIC®3 families of devices. Support for 15 new devices has been added.

Silicon Sculptor I and Silicon Sculptor 6X can no longer be used with this version of the software. These obsolete programmers are no longer supported.

This release features everything in prior general and special releases, as well as additional items.

Should I upgrade?

All customers should upgrade to this release immediately. In general, Actel always recommends upgrading to the latest general release version of the Silicon Sculptor software. Upgrading to a special release should only be done if notified by email.

Equivalent multi-site programmer software from BPM Microsystems
Silicon Sculptor v5.0.0 is equivalent in functionality to BPWin Beta v5.3.0 of Sep. 4, 2009 or later. The first regularly scheduled BPWin release to support all of the features (device support, enhancements, and bug fixes) of this Silicon Sculptor v5.0.0 release is/will be BPWin v5.3.0.

Supported Platforms

v5.0.0 Windows
  • Windows Vista® Business
  • Windows® XP with SP3 (cumulative)

Notes:

  • Actel software may operate on other Vista editions. However, Actel only guarantees operation on the Business edition, which is used during software testing.
  • Silicon Sculptor 3 programmers will not operate when connected to 64-bit Vista or XP systems due to SculptW USB driver incompatibilities. Actel recommends using one of the supported versions listed above.

Minimum System Requirements

  • Pentium 133 or higher (Pentium 200 or higher recommended) processor
  • 64 MB of available memory for use
  • 50 MB of available hard disk space
  • VGA or higher-resolution video adapter (SVGA 256-color and 800x600 or higher resolution recommended)

New Features and Enhancements

  • SAR 19177: Enable SM3F-484FG-ACTEL and SM3F-484FG-ACTEL-1 to support ProASIC3 devices packaged in FG484.
  • SAR 74051: Added an auto-continuity test. The auto-continuity test ensures that the FPGA to be programmed is making good contact with the socket. In addition, when programming in concurrent mode, "IDLE" is displayed after the FPGA has been removed from the socket. Continuity is now available with the following devices:
    • IGLOO devices in CS81 package
    • ProASIC3 and IGLOO devices in FG144 package
    • Fusion devices in QN180 package
    • Fusion and IGLOO devices in FG484 package
    • ProASIC3E, Fusion, and IGLOO devices in FG256 package
    • A3P600-FG256
    • A3P030-TQ144, A3P060-TQ144, and A3P1000-TQ144
    • A3P125-QN132, A3P250-QN132, A3P400-QN132, and AGL125-QN132

Resolved Issues

  • SAR 19410: Prevent the SM100VQ-ACTEL from programming an SX-A in a TQ100 package. The SM100VQ-ACTEL is not a valid adapter module to program an SX-A in a TQ100 package. Use SM100VQ-ACTEL-2 to program an SX-A in a TQ100 package

Known Issues and Workarounds

  • SAR 9255: For the following devices, STAPL files generated from Libero® Integrated Design Environment (IDE) v8.4 will generate a failure.
    • AFS600
    • AFS1500
    • M7AFS600
    • M1AFS600
    • M1AFS1500
    • P1AFS600
    • P1AFS1500
Use a STAPL file generated with Libero IDE v8.4 SP2 or a later version to program the FPGA. If you still need to use a STAPL file from Libero IDE v8.4 to program your FPGA using Silicon Sculptor, please contact Microsemi SoC Tech Support for more information.
