New Features and Enhancements

FlashPro v3.3 provides hi-speed USB support for programming Actel' newest Flash family, the ProASIC3/E family, on the new FlashPro3 programmer via USB 2.0. The FlashPro3 programmer is USB 2.0 capable but will also function at slightly reduced speed on PCs equipped with only full-speed USB 1.1 ports. The FlashPro3 programmer must be used to program ProASIC3/E devices.

This new feature set of the FlashPro v3.3 software has been tested using STAPL generation of Designer 6.1 SP1 (which provides STAPL production for A3PE600-PQ208 devices) and with EAS (Early Access Samples) of A3PE600-PQ208 silicon. The latest ProASIC3/E Flash silicon supports serialization as well as a FlashROM area, extensive features have been added to the software to support this with changes to the GUI.

FlashPro software is now able to run without admin rights.

FlashPro software now provides the capability with FlashPro Lite RevC programmers to vary the TCK rate in STAPL from what was previously fixed to 4MHz. In FlashPro Lite programmers, only RevC has the ability to support different TCK rates, earlier revisions are fixed at 4MHz and an error message will be reported if a user attempts to use a TCK rate not supported by that programmer.

FlashPro Lite may now be used in batch mode.

Many enhancements and additions have been made to the User Guide and this should be referenced when using this release of the software.

Resolved Issues

Many issues have been resolved. A small selection of these is highlighted below.

  • 34225: Support now added for A3PE600-PQ208 devices.
  • 35000: Batch mode now works with FlashPro Lite and now allows voltage detection to be disabled
  • 34894: Electrical pin-out diagrams for all FlashPro family programmers are now in the User Guide
  • 35924: FlashPro software can be installed by an admin and then subsequently run by a user with non-admin rights
  • 40162: The Parport driver is now installed on installation
  • 41742: The log file now always displays the latest information without the user needing to scroll down to it
  • 41827: FlashPro now detects if VDDL is provided by the board and issues an error message if it is not provided
  • 42227: The software indicates if a FlashPro Lite RevC is connected, no RevC indication is provided if the FlashPro Lite is not a RevC (RevC provides ability to vary TCK under STAPL control)

Known Issues and Workarounds

ChainBuilder v1.0 may be used with FlashPro v3.3 but ChainBuilder v1.0 only provides support for ProASIC (A500K) and ProASICPLUS (APA) devices. In the future, ChainBuilder v1.1 will provide JTAG chained support for ProASIC3 (A3P) and ProASIC3E (A3PE) devices.

The analyze chain function does not detect a broken TDI connection at the beginning of the chain.

Running Self-Test with earlier versions of FlashPro gives an error message. Please upgrade the firmware for your FlashPro unit.

When using a USB 2.0 hub with a single FlashPro, very long programming times have been observed. The programming time returns to an expected value when more than one FlashPro is active via the hub.
