China's Portable Design Engineers Recognize Actel's Low-Power IGLOO® Family

Company's 5µW IGLOO FPGAs Included Among Top 5 Overall Best Products

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 09, 2008 — Actel Corporation today announced that its 5 microwatt (µW) IGLOO® field-programmable gate array (FPGA) family, the lowest power programmable logic solution in the industry, has achieved double success in the 2008 Portable Design China Power Management Survey Awards. Actel's IGLOO FPGA was recognized by PDC's readership as one of the industry's Top 5 Overall Best Products, joining solutions from industry leaders Freescale Semiconductor, Broadcom, Maxim and ON Semiconductor in the top five listing. The Actel IGLOO FPGA also received a Best Product Award in the software-compatibility category. For these awards, engineers voted according to how well products met strict criteria that included: power consumption, performance, functionality, price/performance, reliability, design support, and availability among others.

Rick Lain, Actel's area sales director, Asia Pacific commented, "Receiving these prestigious 'best product' awards is a great honor, and further validates our corporate strategy to attack power consumption at the chip level. For China's portable design community, power matters and our IGLOO FPGAs offer a very attractive combination of ultra-low power consumption, small packaging and low price."

Starting at $0.99 unit cost, the award-winning 5µW Actel IGLOO FPGAs provide between 10x and 1700x less static power than competitive programmable logic devices, thus setting a new bar for low-power consumption. Also in its portfolio of flash-based, low-cost FPGAs, Actel offers other devices that have been optimized for power, speed, and I/O, addressing the fundamental design requirements for power- and cost-sensitive design. These include the I/O-optimized IGLOO® PLUS family, which provides the industry's best power-, area-, logic- and feature-per-I/O ratios in a programmable device for any given package size. Also included is the ProASIC®3L family of FPGAs, which effectively balances power and speed for high-performance, power-conscious systems.
