Designing with SmartFusion Intelligent Mixed Signal FPGAs for Embedded, FPGA and Analog Designers

This session demonstrates the design flow enabled by having a hard ARM® Cortex™-M3 processor and complete microcontroller subsystem with flash-based FPGA and programmable analog in a single device. Design methodology must address the needs of a single designer doing all three aspects of design—embedded, FPGA and analog—as well as individual designers merging designs during the development cycle.

Speakers: Tim McCarthy, Worldwide Training Manager, Actel Corporation
Date: Wednesday, Sep 22, 2010, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Wednesday, Sep 22, 2010, 3:15 - 4:30 PM
Location: Room 203
Formats: 90-minute format with instructor-led lab
Audience level: Introductory

Implementing Motor Control Algorithms Using Hardware/Software Partitioning in SmartFusion Intelligent Mixed Signal FPGAs

This session describes methods of implementing high-precision motor control in a device containing a hard ARM Cortex-M3 processor and complete microcontroller subsystem with flash-based FPGA and programmable analog. Participants will learn how to take advantage of the hardware-software partition when implementing precise control of multi-axis applications.

Speakers: Yvonne Lin, Solutions Manager, Strategic Marketing, Actel Corporation
Date/Time: Wednesday, Sep 22, 2010, 12:45 - 1:45 PM
Location: Room 203
Formats: 60-minute format with multi-axis motor demonstration
Audience level: Introductory
Prerequisites: None

Five SmartFusion Evaluation Kits will be given away at each session.

See additional Actel sessions for more detailed design methodology for this type of device.

Graphically Configurable Power Management Using Mixed Signal FPGAs

Embedded designers face significant challenges implementing power management functionality in microcontroller-based designs. A new approach that leverages the unique characteristics of flash-based mixed signal FPGA devices incorporating on-chip microcontrollers provides a flexible solution to power management. By making use of an innovative design concept that combines a graphical configuration GUI tool with configuration settings stored as register values in on-chip flash memory, complex power management functions can be easily implemented and configured. This presentation explores such a graphically configurable solution.

Speakers: Tim McCarthy, Worldwide Training Manager, Actel Corporation
Date/Time: Wednesday, Sep 22, 2010, 2:00 - 3:00 PM
Location: Room 203
Formats: 60-minute format
Audience level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: None

Three SmartFusion Evaluation Kits with MPM Daughter Card will be given away at the end of the session.
